Sardine Mummification!

As part of our Year 4 Topic ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’, we researched the Mummification process that was used during Ancient Egyptian times. We thought that to enhance this learning and to make it more fun and creative for the children we would let them have a go at mummification themselves. Each group was given a sardine and a set of instructions to follow. Children used a knife to open the sardine and to remove the organs, which were then collected in to a canopic jar. Then, salt and sawdust were used to stuff the sardine before wrapping it in bandages. This led to some fantastic instruction writing as you can imagine!
